Is Mike Myers difficult to work with?
Mike Myers has always been one of my favorite actors/comedians, and so I was very surprised to read this article on how many people in Hollywood are rooting for his newest movie, “The Love Guru”, to fail. Here are the most important snippets from the article:
- Says one executive who has had a rocky relationship with Myers: ”I honestly root against him.”
- Penelope Spheeris, who directed Myers in his first film, the 1992 smash Wayne’s World, says she has shared war stories with others who’ve worked with the actor. ”Maybe he could open, like, a children’s hospital to clean up his rep,” she jokes darkly. ”He’s got to do something pretty quick.”
- ”Mike didn’t want Dana in the movie because he felt insecure that someone who had his own creative ideas would get in the way,” (talking about Wayne’s World)
- ”He was emotionally needy and got more difficult as the shoot went along,” Spheeris says. ”You should have heard him bitching when I was trying to do that ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ scene: ‘I can’t move my neck like that! Why do we have to do this so many times? No one is going to laugh at that!”’
- ”I think Mike’s a visionary, but his way of getting what he wants is to emote and threaten and express anger,” says the film’s producer, Rob Fried. ”It’s not healthy for personal relations.”
I don’t know….what do you think? I seriously don’t know what to believe. Like I said, Mike Myers has always been one of my favorites; I’ve seen him in every movie (and I own most of them), I loved him on Saturday Night Live. While I’m not too excited about this newest movie, I do plan on seeing it eventually. What do you think?

Most creative people are difficult, moody and irritating. As a producer, director, or film executive you should already know that. Being prepared for the worst makes the less difficult people seem more impressive. Get over it….work with them get what you want and move on already. We don’t say that the difficult painters works of arts are less impressive just because the artist themselves were disturbed….we shouldn’t do that for actors either. Quite frankly don’t they all have issues? To me it says more about a person who wishes ill well on someone who you already know has issues. DAH
