Mel Gibson and his controversial church

by Wendy on August 2nd, 2007

mel-gibson.pngMel Gibson is making more headlines, now with the money he’s giving his personal sect of the Catholic Church:

Mel Gibson is not losing his religion. He keeps investing his “Passion of the Christ” money into the church he built in Agoura Hills, Calif.

Last year, Gibson parked another $8.2 million in his AP Reilly Foundation, the tax-free entity that takes care of his Holy Family Catholic Church.

Gibson’s church is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church because it does not acknowledge the authority of the pope or the Vatican or the doctrine known as Vatican II. Gibson and many of his fellow congregants are Holocaust deniers, as is Gibson’s father, who has been known to contribute to neo-Nazi publications.

What I don’t get is why he thinks he’s a Catholic, if his church is not recognized by the Catholic Church. It’s like he has his own little private cult or something.

2 opinions for Mel Gibson and his controversial church

I’ve gotten so disappointed in Mel Gibson. I used to admire him though and I thought making “Passion of the Christ” was his spiritual journey.

Anyway, the Catholic church is the only church built by Christ himself (as is the claim). Any other church built by man is by definition only that - a cult.

Don’t be so quick to criticize Mel Gibson. Remember that many Catholic clerics who were members of the Vatican II conclave were freemasons who infiltrated the church. Their purpose, of course; to subvert the bona fide teachings of Catholicism. I encourage all Catholics to read and heed the warnings of Pope Leo in his encyclical and Father Malichi Martin’s Windswept House ect. The pedophile scandal is also a prime example of what masquerading freemason priests have done to my church.
